Is she going to save my nails?

décembre 07, 2016

Good morning ladies!
After the deep sadness of my nails breaking up like if they didn't care about my mental health, there is now a new light to the situation! One of my friends and colleague has her own company of natural products and she just concocted a magic nail nutrition potion just for me. I am really excited about it!
Only the smell of it would make you fall in love with it. It has this delicious minty citrus smell that I LOVE! I have been using it for only two days now but I will definitely be keeping you posted with the result of it!

Tragic Nail Breakage

décembre 02, 2016

Yeah.. so.. emm.. Good afternoon to all!
Has it ever happened to you? I suppose it did. MAJOR BREAKAGE ALERT. It had been more than a year that I hadn't had shorties but now my fingers are crying! I had been fixing my broken nails for a while already but last night they just didn't survive and I had to cut them ALL. I work a lot with computer keyboard and gee the feeling is so awkward that I would almost say it hurts. On the other hand, it did give me a great idea because... mama always told me to see what's positive in every situation. First, starting with fresh nails with no glue on it can't be bad for one's nails. Second, I will do a test for you as to how long it takes to get my nails as long as I like to have them.

I already applied a nourishing nail polish I had from Sally Hansen to see if it may help a bit. It is a polish from their Maximum Growth Plus collection. I am also applying a bunch of Essie's apricot cuticle oil every now and then. Someone please help! I wants my nails back!

Hopefully they'll come back soon enough! In the meantime, I'll try to show you guys a couple ''short nails'' designs...

With love and HOPE...

Adding Some Stamping To It.

novembre 28, 2016

Good afternoon lovelies,

I guess you probably remember my attempt at holographic powder. We I just felt it was missing a bit of shapes and contrast. So that is why I decided to add up some stamping to it. I chose a black stamping polish to give the holo all it's place and not let it getting lost under the creme color of the stamping. I thought black was the perfect contrast to make that holographic polish shine.

The material I used was ,of course, the holographic powder I talked about in one of my previous posts, from the Born Pretty Store. I also used their black stamping polish which I just LOVE (item #22322) and the plate, coming from the same store, is plate BP-L026 (item #21812).

I hope you gals like the result!

Receiving a giveaway prize!

novembre 26, 2016

I don't know for you guys but winning a nail related giveaway makes me feel like if had won the lottery! Not long ago, the Born Pretty Store ran a giveaway on Instagram to which I participated by sharing a picture and adding a hashtag... you know the drill. They where giving out a beautiful Christmas stamper. I chose the green silicone head and the black and golden stamp holder.

Honestly I do not regret my choice it just looks stunning! On top of that, they included 2 winter Born Pretty mini card-like scrapers which are very practical and have the perfect amount of flexibility. The stamper itself came in a cute little plastic box which if you get that product on their store (item #36395) I highly suggest you keep. This stamper is qualified as a marshmallow or very sticky if you prefer. If you leave it out there in the air, dust tends to stick to it. On my side, what I do is I always leave it in its little box to avoid getting too much dust on it.

I have played with it a little bit already and what I can tell you is that it picks up ANY image on ANY plate perfectly and without any effort. Images look flawless on it and it applies the image very well on your nails, specially if you have curvy nails like mine. (I will be showing it in a little while and you'll see it gives amazing results! )

On that note,
have an amazing day nailart lovers!

For the love of Holo!

novembre 25, 2016

Good morning nail art beauties!
So yesterday I received some nail mail, and some days ago too but the one  from yesterday was special because it contained HOLO!! I will be showing the whole content of my last nail mail in a next post but I am still expecting a couple thingies in the mail so as soon as I get them I'll be posting it up in here.
For now, let's just say I couldn't wait for using that so called holographic magic powder. I know I might be late on the trend but things tend to be slow to get to my cold land haha. So here's the result of my first attempt to holo powder.

To make the long story short, I first tried it to follow the instructions which said that I had to apply the magic powder on top of a non-wipe gel top coat. The result of it was... nothing. the powder would just NOT stick to the polish. So I went with the trial and error and I found the right way to do. I applied the polish to a cured gel colored polish. In my case it was a soft pink one. I am just OBSESSED with the flawless result of it!

To make my little review of the product itself, I really think it is an amazing product which any holo lover should get. It is cheap and of an amazing quality. It is easy to apply and there is no need to use a latex barrier to protect your cuticles because it doesn't stain your skin at all. It just doesn't stick to it. It comes with a gel-ish makeup applicator which work fine and makes the powder easy to apply. On the other hand, I am thinking about getting myself a silicone brush to apply the powder because although good, I do not thing the applicator will last many applications.

The powder I got is item #34011 from the Born Pretty Store and I Highly recommend it.

Cheers to those nail fail stories

novembre 23, 2016

Do we agree that not all of our experiments when we have billiant ideas of new nail designs turn out as planned? We know that reality doesn't necesarily go along with expectations. That beautiful nailart table of your probably turned out to hell a couple times, covered in cotton balls, polish residues and TONS of acetone. So here's my last nail fail which just happened last night.

It all started with that new stamping plate that came into the mail not long ago. I had been thinking of what to do with it for a while and I finally had the idea I as looking for. The idea was to do sort of a reversed stamping using geometrical shapes and combine shimmers and glitters with creme polishes. I am not the best at reversed stamping so at first I tried a bunch of stampers to see what level of stickiness was best for it. My answer; the more it is sticky, the toughest it will be.

Another thing I tested to contribute to the epic failure my attempt ended up being, was the top coat I applied to my Uber Mat to create the reversed stamping design I wanted. I was so excited to FINALLY try my Seche Vite that I decided to go with it. WRONG! It just dried so fast that it would just unstick from the mat as soon as I tried to stamp on it. At first, I thought it was simply because of my stamper which was the most sticky I own but just the same result came out.

In clonclusion, I just ended up with a full of acetone cotton balls graveyard on my table BUT I do have some nice tips for you NOT to repeat my nail fail....

1. Sticky/Marshmallow stampers, although REALLY amazing for regular stamping, are not the best for reversed stamping.
2. Sèche Vite is NOT made to be the top coat you apply the your mat for reversed stamping.

I hope you could learn from my mistakes and feel free to comment your nail fail stories in the comments!

Sèche Vite in stores in Canada!

novembre 23, 2016

OVER-EXCITEMENT  ALERT! I just found the famous, the one and only, Sèche Vite is sold in my local drugstore!!! I don't know for the other provinces but for the province of Quebec.. Guys just head up to Uniprix!!!

I normally don't go to that drugstore because it is not as near from my home as Jean-Coutu or Shopper's Drugmart but I just happened to hang in there and I saw, for the first time, the Sèche brand in front of my very own eyes! Unfortunately there were different Sèche polishes, Uv, not UV Clear etc... but NOT the Sèche Vite I was so excited about. :( So that is when that amazing lady came and opened the drawer which contains their extra stock and HERE IT WAS! Sèche Vite was there, looking at me, saying ''bring me home!'' .... You guessed it, I couldn't resist. The fact that there was only one bottle was definitely a sign.

On that happy note, I'll definitely be giving you notices of me trying it out for the first time!
Have a good day lovelies!

Stamping of the Day

novembre 18, 2016

Here is a small stamping design I did really fast on the corner of the table because when you are near from the end of a semester and you teach 181 students, you have a LOT of assignments to correct and not a lot of time to do it. Also, since I can't live without having my nails done, I came up with this!

For the base color, I used ''Yellow'' from the Probelle Beauty Textured collection.
The stamping plate used is from the Born Pretty Store: Plate BP-L012 (item #19367)
The stamping polish is the Shimmer Green Stamping polish from the Born Pretty Store. (item #23198)
The stamper (item #24021) and scraper (item #21872) are also from the same store.

I just love how the combination of color came out. It even made my students react so it's a good sign.
Hope you guys liked it!

Love, K. ;)

Free Shipping when you live in Canada

novembre 17, 2016

Well yeah! Because we are canadian, we are not part of the lucky ones who practically ALWAYS get free shipping for all their nailart-related orders. Luckily enough, we DO have very nice nailart companies who think about us and give us access to that free shipping.

The first one on which I order MOST of my nail goodies is the Born Pretty Store. Most of you probably know them but if you don't, you really have to take a look at their wide, wide, WIDE, WIDE...(did I say wide?) range of different nail art and beauty products. They simply have EVERYTHING a nailart addict might need and they ship their products for free in any country of the world.  (10% off your purchase with my code KAYSW10)

The second one I have discovered not long ago is Snail Vinyls. Just like you can probably guess, they sell nail vinyls and they look just gorgeous! I was really happy to see that shipping to Canada is completely free!

There is also Nail Polish Canada which provides free shipping to Canada for purchases above 29$. They have most popular brands of nail polishes such as Color Club, China Glaze, Picture Polish, Zoya and many more. They really have a LOT of choices. For people who choose not to buy for 29$, they do add a 4$ flat rate to the orders. They also have a list of items which they ship for free anytime with no minimum purchase required.

The last one I have for the moment is Harlow and Co.
Just like Nail Polish Canada, they sell most popular brands and they ship your fave products for free when you order for 25$ or more.

Alright so those are the ones I know about but please, fellow canadians, if you know about other free shipping nail art pages for us, feel free to share it is the comments!

Swatches of the new Textured collection of Probelle Beauty

novembre 17, 2016

Good morning beauties!
A couple weeks ago I had the chance to receive an AMAZING nail polish collection from a company that I didn't know about yet and I can tell you I am truly happy to know them now and I would reccomand it to ANYONE who's looking for a unique type of nail polish.

Probelle Beauty came up with this beautiful textured collection which is a serie of ten different color polishes that are all very opaque and most of them only need one coat to give a perfectly opaque look. A couple seconds after applying the polish the beautiful sandy look appears to give the polish all its beauty. What is nice about those polishes is that you can easily choose if you want your nails to have a sandy texture or, you can also modify it by applying a glossy top coat.

Hope y'all enjoy it! So here are the swatches of it!

Back at it with my good old tips

octobre 23, 2016

Hey hey beautiful people! For the ones who don't know me, I am Katryn, a 24-year-old high school teacher who also happens to be a nail art addict. I love to share what I know and what I enjoy. I used to have another blog but I quickly realised that my name on social media (Nailstyle by K) was too long for people to remember it so I did a small change and went for a fresh start. For that fresh start, I thought of reposting my magic tips for you to get amazing and healthy nails!

I published, a long time ago, the list of my three favourite items for nail care... They really are good tips but I do think that taking care of your nails really is more than that... You might not realize it but a whole bunch of things that you probably do on a daily basis just keep you far from those long and strong nails. Some things are more obvious than others but they are all important.

1. Do not EVER pick at your chipped nail polish.
I have to admit that I am more than guilty on that one, and I know it can be very, VERY tempting to do it when you see that a piece of your precious manicure is missing, but just DON'T do it! What happens is that when you pick at your polish

2. Your nails are not TOOLS!
Once you have grown your nails a little bit, doesn't it just seem SO easy and logical to use your nails to remove some labels or worse, to open the ring of a keychain? Using your nails for those little things which seem so unimportant is just like a horror story for your poor little nails!

3. Biting your nails is a big NO-NO!
I know that this is a pretty obvious one but I think it is worth mentioning it. Not biting your nails might be difficult because we get stressed and need something to pass our stress on. For that reason, I have a couple suggestions. The first one and the most important: KEEP YOUR NAILS POLISHED! Don't we just love that tip? Also, If you do not have time to get some awesomeness on your nails (Yeah, I mean amazing nail art), at least give it a coat of base and top coat to give it some protection. By having some polish on your nails you'll be a lot less tempted by the idea of biting your nails and ruining the beautiful work of art you got on there. Another thing you may do is to keep something you can play with, like a stress ball, instead of risking your nails' life. A small rubber elastic can be good too, I actually like that one.

4. Stay away from fake nails.
The reason for me to tell you that, even if a lot of people LOVE to get those magical nails on (which are truly beautiful), is because they damage your real nails A LOT! Maybe you do not know it but your nails need to breathe and acrylic or gel nails do not let them breathe. On top of that, fake nails, by not letting your nails breathe (yeah yeah I know I repeat myself a lot, I have never been good at composing very logical texts), will make your nailbeds a lot more likely to develop very bad guys who we more commonly call: FUNGUS! (da, da, daaaaa : Very dramatic music here). When removing the fake nails, you will also probably end up with very soft nails which will break with almost nothing. In other words, a natural manicure will be much better believe me!

5. Avoid extended exposure to water.
Unless you are a princess who doesn't know the meaning of the word DISHES, you will definitely need that tip! Well, yeah, we all know that once we are done eating we need to plunge our majestic hands into some dirty hot water in order to clean our mess. Well, I am sorry ladies but THAT is a KILLER for your nails! Letting your nails soaked in water for too long will get them a lot weaker and they will tend to split. Obviously, I am NOT about to tell you that you need to find yourself a slave to clean the dishes... NO! ...but this is where you'll want to plan a small trip to your local dollar store. GET YOURSELF A BUNCH OF RUBBER GLOVES!!! Seriously, they will save your nails from splitting and doing all sorts of unwanted things.

6. Don't forget the base and top coats
This is pretty simple. When you decide to polish your nails, the most crucial coats are the base coat (Obviously of a base coat polish) and the top coat (Then again, you need to get one from any drugstore or any place where you get your nail polishes). What the base coat will do is first, to protect you nailbeds from all the chemicals of your regular polishes. Also, it will make your manicure adhere a lot better to your nails, so your polish will be less tempted to chip. Your nails will even get less stained by your over usage of nail polish (God knows that is something very annoying that is worth getting rid of). On the other hand,  the top coat is as crucial as the base coat since it is what will make your manicure last long. It will also help hiding any fingerprint or scratches done when your polish was not dry yet. YES! This happens to everyone when your get too excited about your manicure and you want to test if it is dry when it is NOT... Or when you didn't think of planning some drying time and you need to get going and...SCRATCH... So girls, use a top coat every time!

7. Eat Healthy
You might not have thought about it but whatever you eat will have an impact on your nails. This is a simple advice that will not only help you to have healthy nails but it will also make YOU healthy and this is one of the greatest gifts you can do to yourself.

8. ALWAYS have a nail file with you!
Always, always, always ALWAYS... did I say always? Every single place you go, you want to have a nail file around. From the very moment you hit one of your nails somewhere you'll be tempted to tear the broken piece out and you just CAN'T do that! this will just weaken your nails and will not let you have hard and beautiful nails. I have nail files literally EVERYWHERE; In every room of my place, in the car, in every single bag I have, at work... and I can really say it is fundamental for keeping nice strong nails.

There you go! Hope those little tips helped you!

Love, K.
